It is right to say that talent hits a target no one can hit, and genius hits a target no one can see. Meet 9 year old Sammam Lakhmani, a grade 5 student of Sunbeam School Annapurna, Varanasi who, along with being a World Record Holder under India’s World Records for playing musical tunes on more than ten tablas (Tabla Tarang) for two significant times. He is also a district and state level chess player and a genius when it comes to solving Rubik’s cubes in a short period of time. Sammam’s father, Mr. Amit Kumar Lakhmani runs a creative bakery business and is the owner of Jamuna Das Biscuit Company, which is currently thriving in Varanasi. His mother, Mrs Arti Gulati Lakhmani, too is the director of Rocket Kids Pre School, in Sigra, Varanasi. Sammam can rightly be called a prodigy, pertaining to the wide range of talents he has put to display. He has occupied the first position in District Level Chess Competition and has been a runner up in the State level of the same, which is a remarkable talent worthy of applause.

The list doesn’t end here, because he is also a genius when it comes to solving a Rubik’s cube in a limited, short period of time – an activity which requires immense patience and talent. Along with excelling in the fields of music (tabla playing, registered under India’s World Records), spatial reasoning (Rubik’s Cube) and critical thinking (chess prodigy), Sammam’s abilities also land up on the cultural spectrum, as showcased by his ability to perform Gatka, a Sikh martial art. Sammam is only 9 years old, and has won more than 15 awards, the number of awards swiftly outnumbering the number of years he has spent living in the world.

Sammam, while managing his participation in other areas, is also excelling in academics. Part of his talent can be credited to excellent upbringing by his parents, who, along with managing their careers, did not falter when it came to acknowledging their child’s talents and even nurturing it. Sammam’s participation in spiritual, social and cultural activities also sharpens his talents further. Truly, talent only has to be recognized, after that, it can only grow.
